Before you Start your Project

Understanding Warranties
Consumers should carefully read and understand their roofing warranty and take note of all provisions that may void it.

Contractor Warranties
Be sure that your contractor offers a warranty that covers workmanship. You need to be protected from if the roof is improperly installed.

Manufacturer's Warranties

Once you are familiar with your specific roofing requirements, narrow your choices to the roof system lines that are best designed to serve your needs. Make your selection based on an objective comparison of their relevant and proven merits ? not on the length of the warranty.

Don't assume that a long-term warranty is an all-inclusive insurance policy
Long-term warranties do not guarantee good roof system performance. Warranty commitments cannot be fulfilled by a manufacturer that goes out of business. Many an unwary consumer has been left to face serious roofing problems with a useless warranty.

Make sure the warranty clearly states

Standards and frequency for all periodic owner maintenance required during the service life of the roof system.
Manufacturer service and support information.

Be aware that warranties
Do not usually cover leaks except under very specific circumstances.
Do not guarantee that a roofing system is suitable for the site where it is installed.
Often limit the manufacturer's liability should problems develop. There may also be monetary limitations, exclusion of damage and non-transfer clauses.
